Kashmir’s leading newspapers went black on Wednesday in a powerful protest following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 28 people, mostly tourists. Prominent dailies like Greater Kashmir, Rising Kashmir, Kashmir Uzma, Aftab, and Taameel-e-Irshad replaced their front pages with stark black backgrounds, displaying bold white and red headlines.
Greater Kashmir’s headline read, “Gruesome: Kashmir Gutted, Kashmiris Grieving,” while its editorial, “The Massacre in the Meadow – Protect Kashmir’s Soul,” condemned the attack on both the victims and the region’s identity.
The act wasn’t just symbolic mourning, but a demand for urgent reforms, improved security, and better coordination among agencies. This collective stand by Kashmir’s media was a call for justice and a reminder that even the “Paradise on Earth” weeps in the face of violence.
